Man committed for drug use escapes out hospital window

The blotter is derived from recent incident reports and central dispatch records of area police agencies.

Aug. 13

Someone broke the window out of a Rogersville residence, then stole a "variety of groceries that were in the fridge." Nothing else was taken.

Aug. 15

A county property owner accused a man of "slowly stealing his land ... moving property markers and pulling stakes out of the ground."

The victim of a burglary reported someone broke in through the back door while she was home. She said that the suspect then "knocked something off the wall that must have scared them," as they fled empty handed.

Aug. 13

Police were contacted about a female in a Blountville store who was "trying to take magazines."

During a dispute between Bristol neighbors, someone was accused of "cooking meth" while another "threatened to shoot people."

Aug. 14

Dispatch was advised of a suspicious woman in the median of Wilcox Drive, "waving her arms, taking off her clothes."

Police responded to a report of assault in Bluff City, where one man claimed that another "tried to run him over with a lawnmower." The victim said the incident occurred when he confronted the rider about his reckless driving of the lawn equipment, adding that he had to jump out of the way to keep from being hit.

At 9:40 a.m., dispatch was alerted to a man outside of Blountville Middle School "playing with himself." At a nearby car wash an officer located the suspect, who claimed he was on his way to New York to meet with a modeling agency. As he waited for his ride, according to his statements, he decided to get exercise at the school track. Meanwhile, one complainant said she had spotted the man at the track earlier in the week, with him repeatedly yelling at her, "Hey, girl." She ignored him. But today, he allegedly "turned towards" her an another woman, "pulled out his penis and urinated in front of them." Also present for the display were students and a teacher. The suspect told police that he "thought he was concealing himself enough," but was nonetheless arrested for indecent exposure.

As emergency crews worked a possible overdose in Blountville, a vehicle approached the death scene and a "screaming" woman jumped out. After ignoring police commands to stay back from the residence, she cursed, threatened to kill and tried to hit an officer, prompting her arrest for simple assault. She also spit on police while claiming "I'm bipolar, bitch!"

A Kingsport resident said he was threatened by a neighbor, who had just been released from jail. The suspect was allegedly angry about police being called the night before: "This is only the haven't seen anything yet."

Aug. 13

An officer on West Stone Drive observed a woman "stagger" into the roadway twice, then lean up against the side of the bridge over Lynn Garden Drive. After questioning, she was determined to be intoxicated and a "danger to herself and the public." Upon arrest she resisted police, "grabbed hold of a chain link fence with both hands and refused to let go." Once wrestled into a patrol car for transport to jail, she slipped out of her handcuffs and repeatedly banged her head on the plexiglass, "eventually requiring the use of pepper spray to subdue her."

Police were called to Indian Path Medical Center after a man "broke out a double paned window" in the Intensive Care Unit, then jumped out to flee the scene. The suspect, who was wearing just his boxers during the escape, had been committed due to drug use, with officers circling the area but unable to immediately locate him. He used a metal chair to inflict the damages in the hospital, which were estimated at $1,000.

Aug. 17

Walmart loss prevention spotted a shoplifter roll out a cart with 37 items of merchandise. They totaled $700 and included clothing, food and household items. When questioned, she told police "how she hadn't been able to buy her kids anything and how she just purchased a home." She was arrested for felony theft.

Aug. 18

At 1:30 a.m. police were alerted to a man trying to flag down cars on Netherland Inn Road, wearing only his underwear. An officer found him "covered in grass" with a large knot on the side of his face, cuts to his elbow and hand. He stated he had earlier met with a girl who he had been communicating with on Facebook, adding that she was accompanied by male. They all later ended up at Netherland Inn Park, where he was attacked and robbed of his wallet, keys and clothes. Neither of the two suspects were immediately located by police.
