Hawkins man pleads guilty in child porn case

GREENEVILLE – A Hawkins County man found with 750 images of child pornography on his laptop computer has agreed to plead guilty to the charge in federal court.

Robert Heath London was indicted in U.S. District Court in Greeneville in July. The two-count indictment charged him with receipt and possession of child pornography. London, who is currently in custody, agreed to plead guilty to the possession charge on Aug. 19.

The offense carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 21.

According to court records, the Hawkins County Sheriff's Department received a tip on June 8 from a reliable third party informant that London has been downloading child pornography for more than 10 years.

Deputies then went to London’s Manis Road residence later that day to talk to London about the allegations. London denied receiving or possessing child pornography, but gave written consent to deputies to examine his laptop computer and search his home.

Court records state a preliminary examination of the computer revealed 100 images of child pornography.

Deputies then obtained a search warrant and returned to London’s home the next day. During an interview with law enforcement, London admitted he began downloading child pornography from the Internet four years ago.

London provided consent for deputies to search his other computer and computer equipment. A forensic examination of the equipment by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department revealed 750 images of child pornography, court records state.

Deputies arrested and charged London with more than 100 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
