Wells 50th anniversary
Jim and Janet (Heffner) Wells of Kingsport will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 7, 2015.
The couple met while attending East Tennessee State University and later married in Boone, N.C., in 1965. They will celebrate their anniversary throughout the month of August with getaways starting in Boone.
Jim and Janet owned and operated Wells Camera and Video for 28 years before retiring.
They are the parents of son Jasen Wells (Lisa) and daughters Janea Carter (Mike) and Dr. Jimmie Glenn (John). They have six grandchildren — C.J. Wells, Jayna Wells, Mikaela Carter, Clayton Carter, John Glenn and Lillian Glenn.
Their 50 years of marriage has been filled with God’s love and wonderful memories of family and friends.
Adams 100th birthday
Amanda “Mandy” Ethel Rhoton Adams of Gray celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends at an early surprise party held Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Walnut Chapel Church in Gate City, Va.
Mandy was born on July 27, 1915. One of 13 children, she married Lofty Adams, her husband of more than 50 years, and raised three sons — James Adams of Del Rio, Tenn., and Frank and Lewis Adams, both of Gray.
Celebrating with her last Sunday were most of her eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and their families, and even her first great-great-grandchild.
Mandy has been a career homemaker who spent decades gardening, quilting and cooking as a few of her many hobbies.
Collins 65th anniversary
Howard and Imogene Davidson Collins of Kingsport celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a reception held in their honor July 18, 2015, at West View Baptist Church.
The event was hosted by their family.
The couple was married July 21, 1950. They are the parents of daughter Gail Hulse and husband Bryan of Kingsport; son Larry Collins and wife Sharon of Jonesborough; daughters-in-law Paula Collins and Donna Collins; and sons Mike “Chub” Collins and Ricky Collins, both deceased. They have several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Browder 50th anniversary
John R. Browder Jr. and Charlotte Lyons Browder of Bristol will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open reception to be held in their honor at 6 p.m., July 31, 2015, at Browder’s Chapel’s Iva Center.
The event is being hosted by their son and family and friends.
They are the parents of Johnny Browder and wife Tina of Elizabethton and the grandparents of Ryan and Ragen.
Mr. Browder retired from Overnite Trucking Co. Mrs. Browder is a Sunday School teacher at Browder’s Chapel.
The presence of family and friends is the only gift requested.
Wallace 90th birthday
Elmer C. “Dick” Wallace recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
He was born July 8, 1925. Dick was in the U.S. Navy in World War II, serving in the South Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Lassen AE III. This ship won three battle stars for her hazard duties.
He has been married to Louise (Collins) Wallace for 62 years. He is the father of Velma Hicks, Danny Wallace and Bobby Wallace. He has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
